06:10 pm - update
Still in Sweden. It is nice when it is sunny, and I have seen Hepatica nobilis as well as Anemone nemorosa. So I guess I didn't leave Geneva at the height of spring to miss spring completely in Sweden.
Nephew is keeping us on our toes. It was much easier to help him sit than to help him walk. His technique will either rrevolutionise running or he will have to give it up once nobody is keeping his balance for him.
Floor is done in the loft without major incidents. And the first layer of insulating walls is done. I don't think I will get to do much more this time and it will likely be all finished by the next time I visit.

06:34 pm - so far so good
I am back in Sweden for easter. The plan is to help dad with a loft conversion, and play with nephew. Have made a start on both, but much left to do. Not stepped through the ceiling yet anyway and I hope we will get the floor done without any such incident.

06:58 pm - silly girl
I had icicles in my hair this morning. I took care to thaw my hair before bending any of it.

10:01 pm - oops
Julafton. Today has been pretty relaxing. The parents and I had Christmas lunch in a restaurant, then went home to digest food.
Though there was a slight, erm, incident in the evening: I had decided to make use of the jacuzzi again and I might have gone a little bit overboard on the bubbelbath. There was foam everywhere! Including places where there should not be any.
But I am squeaky clean, relaxed (still rather full) AND I have permission to sleep as late as I want tomorrow (as long as I am up by 10)

10:24 am - fingers crossed
Baking went well yesterday. I enjoyed working with dough, it happens too rarely.
Today we were going to look after nephew in the morning while sister worked.... however... we are now looking after nephew all day as sister is a bit ill. He seems fine so far so hopefully we'll not get ill for Christmas.
Meanwhile the dog is having a rough time; yesterday she was dominated by a rambunctious German Shepherd Dog (she is only a *dwarf* Schnauzer) and today the usurper of laps and attention is here. Poor dog.

03:58 pm - getting on to christmas
Well, I must say that my mom showed remarkable restraint this morning and didn't insist that I get up (much) before 10. I reluctantly let go of the duvet in its super soft satin duvet cover; my early christmas present to myself. ( I love it ! Just what I wanted.)
The weather today has been miserable, but at least there are so few hours of sunlight that you don't see the rain for long. I don't really know where the day went, surely it couldn't have taken that long to buy groceries?!
We dressed the christmas tree already today (usually that is done no earlier than the 23rd) but most of the old decorations have been cleared out so the tree ended up very elegantly understated. So we'll have to buy more...
Tomorrow is baking day (yeay!).

07:32 pm - Not too bad
Headed home for chrismas today. The flight was very early, and I packed very late...
But one nap and one soak in a jacuzzi later and I am feeling ok again.

06:33 pm - a treasure
Quite a long time ago now I found the site for Smart bitches who love trashy books. It is gold. And since then whenever I want a good giggle I just remember The Flute of Love...
06:03 pm - I always get distracted it seems
Oh my goodness. I got one letter wrong when I tried searching for the mail system of cern, and ended up on.....
the canadian escort recommendation board. In a thread about massage.
So I completely forgot what I wanted to post about, again.

09:02 pm - feh!
I meant to post about purchases and laser ions but I got distracted by the ad as I checked into livejournal. I misread it as "Why is your stomach fLat?" - and thought "Thank you for noticing"

08:42 am - I should be doing something else now
This could become a habit. But nooo! internet in my morning break (yeah, ok, warm-up). It is taking away my diary time. I will have to rethink this I believe.
Anyway, we are trying to get the oven unit working. I am very much hoping it will, as I have no experience in how easily one can go from the principle of how ion optics work (I ask you, have *you* ever found a semi infinite plate? Never mind two. And how would you fit it, them, in the chamber it you did. ) to building a system. Are they parallel enough? Can we trust simulations? etc. It will be interesting (in the best sense - I hope). Yesterday we tried making out fancy 'scope do tricks. It wouldn't jump through hoops, but it did find things we believe are signals. Maybe even laser ions...

10:36 pm - toy
So I have a new toy - an acer aspire one - AND internet access from home. Yeay! The world is mine! Internet access is so terribly addictive, and I have on and off (but not particularly tenaciously) tried to get internet access at home and now it has happened.
The stops and starts have not been terrible interesting, but I might get around to list and moan about them at some point - as examples of the joys of living here in Switzerland as a cern worker....

11:27 pm - hmmm
Been a while since I posted anything. I had a look at my bio, and although this year has been interesting (in the meaning of chinese curse) it still fits. But I have to find new homes for my orchids.

06:38 pm - On holiday
I am on holiday back in Sweden. I am out at the family summerhouse and although the weather could be better I have had a pretty good time baking and getting thoroughly charmed by my little nephew. People say he looks like his dad, but I think he is cute.

12:20 am - long night ahead
My shift has only just started and I feel ready to go to bed. Today wasn't really the best day to prepare for a nightshift as I had things I needed to do in the afternoon. Well, nothing to do but wait for second wind. And curse my narrow ear channels: stop rejecting the earplugs!

12:41 pm - worth mentioning?
I have been debating whether it is now too late to ask somebody to change how they address me, and whether it is worth it. I figured out pretty quickly what the reason for the particular style of address is and at first just felt kind of surprised, but it is starting to feel like maybe it actually makes me uncomfortable. Let me explain; if I spoke french I would be adressed as Mme [my family name], (and according to a discussion in one french class this seems to be the norm for most women and it would a bit unusual to insist on being mademoiselle regardless if you are unmarried, but I might be mistaken.), but as I speak english and not much french they have translated it to mrs [my family name]. A small thing. But I feel almost uneasy to hear it and I don't think it is simply that it is not what I am used to hear. It is so far away from where/what/who I am right now.

11:14 am - I've been quiet
I have gotten into the habit of writing a real, pen and paper, journal. It's for my eyes only, but has meant that I feel less of an itch to post things here. Sorry. It means you are spared my rantings. Congratulations.

12:34 pm - lots of flowers
I did go to the botanical gardens yesterday and I want to go back there fairly regularly. I finally saw some lilies-of-the-valley that were not cut flowers or in a pot. I probably looked silly crouching down to stick my nose in the flower beds. I so wish I had a recording device for smells. Photos are nice but I want to be able to smell the flowers.
Problem is I don't enjoy anything for very long. I guess I'll just have to accept that and try to take pleasure in small doses.
They also had a very cool merry-go-round. (As far as merry-go-rounds go)

04:31 pm - sun outside
I biked in to CERN for the first time in a month today. (I biked from cern thursday night (although it was actually friday)). It was a quite different experience from previous months, I didn't need even thin gloves. To my northern skin it feels like summer here now. On the days it isn't chilly and raining that is.
It is a shame that I have so far spent most of this long weekend (1 and 2 may are cern holidays) with such nice weather in a noisy small room. I shall try to make up for it by going to the botanical gardens tomorrow.

11:48 am - a note of interest to very few
I have no credit left on my mobile and I think it best not to refill it for a while.
